"ASTRA" National Museum Complex |
[edit this] |
ASTRA Museum was established in 1905 by the Transylvanian Association for the Literature and Culture of the Romanian People. In 1950 it ceased to exist, and the collections were transferred to the Brukental Museum. In 1963 the Museum of Folk Technology was inaugurated, that functioned as an open air department of the Brukental Museum. In 1990, the Folk Art departments and the Museum of Folk Technology became an independent museum: the "ASTRA" Traditional Folk Civilization Museum. Currently it comprises of the open air Department, the "Franz Binder" World Ethnography Museum (established in 1993), the "Emil Sigerus" Saxon Ethnography Museum (1997), and the "ASTRA" Transylvanian Civilization Museum. The Memorial Room dedicated to Cornel Irimie holds memories in connection with the activity of the former director and founder of the open air museum, starting with 1953.
